I&#8217;m not there yet myself. This is the story of slowly building that life, one season at a time, a &#8216;dream life lite&#8217; approach.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Somewhere along the way, I realised I was drifting further and further from the life I&#8217;d imagined for myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not in one dramatic moment, but gradually. One new job. One mortgage. One deadline. One school run. One commute. Until one day, I looked around and realised that life had become something I was managing rather than truly living and being present in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I was younger, I imagined something very different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps a studio overlooking the sea where I could spend my days creating. Or a smallholding tucked away in the countryside, growing vegetables, keeping chickens and living a little more gently and a little more self-sufficiently with perfectly turned out children running barefoot in the grass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, I found myself balancing life&#8217;s stresses as a mum to two wonderful, <s>messy and crazy<\/s> boys with a demanding full-time career in London, a three-hour daily commute, and work that takes me to construction sites across the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And before all this sounds terribly ungrateful, it isn&#8217;t. I know full well how fortunate we are. We have security, opportunities and a life many people would be grateful for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But somewhere amongst the emails, the meetings and the endless to-do lists, I realised I&#8217;d lost sight of the person I once imagined becoming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How did I end up here?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Partly because I was encouraged by a wonderfully creative parent not to follow in their footsteps and instead to &#8220;follow the money&#8221; as a result of their own experiences and struggles as a freelance creative. Partly because I was drawn to the opportunities of the city. Partly because, if I&#8217;m honest, I wasn&#8217;t quite sure who I was when I was choosing a career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Life has a way of carrying us along if we&#8217;re not paying attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I don&#8217;t blame anyone for the path I&#8217;ve taken. Every choice was ultimately mine. Some were sensible, some were necessary, and many have brought wonderful things into my life, so no real regrets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But I&#8217;ve reached a point where I&#8217;m asking myself a different question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not <em>&#8220;How do I escape?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But <em>&#8220;How do I begin?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I admire the people who sell everything, move to the coast and completely reinvent their lives. I know a few and they absolutely inspire me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But life isn&#8217;t always that simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many of us have mortgages, careers, children happily settled at school and responsibilities we wouldn&#8217;t want to walk away from, even if we could.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So I started wondering if there was another way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A middle way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>&#8220;Dream Life Lite isn&#8217;t about escaping your life. It&#8217;s about gently reshaping it.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What if I didn&#8217;t need to wait until retirement to live a life that felt more like my own?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What if I didn&#8217;t need acres of land to start growing food?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What if I didn&#8217;t need a studio overlooking the Atlantic to start making art?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What if I didn&#8217;t have to move to the coast or some rural idyll before I could begin living a slower, more intentional life?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe the dream doesn&#8217;t have to arrive all at once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe, just maybe&#8230; it can be built, quietly and imperfectly, one small step at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A pocket allotment in an ordinary garden&#8230;. A sketchbook opened for twenty minutes after work&#8230;A weekend camping beside the sea&#8230;Making space to notice the seasons again&#8230;Chiselling out time to learn crafts both old and new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tiny moments that, over time, become a different way of living. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s how Willow &amp; Mist was born.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This isn&#8217;t a blog about abandoning real life to chase an impossible dream. It&#8217;s about weaving more beauty, creativity and calm into the life you already have. About choosing progress over perfection, and remembering that it&#8217;s never too late to become the person you imagined, even if the route to get there looks very different from the one you had expected. I&#8217;ve coined this a &#8216;dream life lite&#8217; approach, as it&#8217;s not about jumping in with both feet but simply dipping a toe into the water here and there as life allows and seeing what feels good and what doesn&#8217;t. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ll be sharing the successes, the failures, the experiments, the half-finished projects and the lessons I learn along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some ideas will flourish. No doubt some will also fail spectacularly. But I want this to be an honest record of trying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because perhaps the dream life isn&#8217;t a destination we eventually arrive at.
